Other Books I’ve Read or Am Reading This Spring
I didn’t take as many, or any, notes while reading these books this spring (sometimes it’s nice to just read for pleasure), but I enjoyed them all:
Dearly (New Poems) - Margaret Atwood - I read this because I need more poetry in my life and the library had it available in audiobook format.
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier - I read this novel because Taylor Swift said it inspired her to write “Tolerate It.”
Columbine - Dave Cullen - I read this because my daughter picked it for her nonfiction book this semester.
All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque - I read this novel because I’m interested in war literature and history, and I want to write about my own ancestors’ experiences with war.
Bossy Pants - Tina Fey - I picked this autobiography/memoir because after reading the previous two books, I needed something a little lighter.
I’m currently reading:
The Lake Wobegon Virus - a novel by Garrison Keillor written during the coronavirus pandemic
hush - poems by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer - After the Capitol riot, I wanted to do something positive, so I bought two copies of this book from Lithic Bookstore and have been reading one poem a day out of it. I gave the other copy to a friend for her birthday.
Demimonde - poems by Kierstin Bridger - reading one poem a day
Leadership - a biography of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and Lyndon Johnson by Doris Kearns Goodwin
No Ordinary Time - a biography of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt by Doris Kearns Goodwin
Me Talk Pretty One Day - a collection of essays by David Sedaris
Good Poems - a collection of poetry edited by Garrison Keillor
New and Selected Poems, Volume One - poems by Mary Oliver - reading one poem a day
I also listen to Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac every day for inspiration and a daily poem.
What are you reading? Please let me know your recommendations. I like a variety of genres, but am particularly interested in poetry, books on writing historical fiction, historical fiction, and humor.
